Illustrative Scenario: Mobile Device Forensics in Civil Litigation

Suppose the parties to a civil dispute disagree about what was agreed by message. Examiners would extract the communication records from the phones in a forensically sound way, recovering message threads, where the data is still recoverable, and their timestamps.

Illustrative scenarios showing how we approach typical matters. They are not accounts of specific client cases.

The Challenge

Parties to a commercial contract dispute need verified messages from phones to support claims about verbal agreements and the order of events.

Forensic Approach & Methodology

Using physical and logical extraction of the phones, examiners would recover the messaging databases and check the messages' internal consistency against the exported database structures.

Outcome & Impact

What an examination could establish: A chronological record of the messages, to help resolve the dispute. Whether evidence is admitted is decided by the court in each case.
